Failure Analysis of Austenitic Stainless Steel Implant Screws and Prospection of Chemical Composition Using Artificial Intelligence

In this work, austenitic stainless steel screws employed in a locking compression plate for veterinarian use were investigated. These types of implants are widely utilized bone fractures healing. Two surgical extracted due to the observation slight superficial red rust colorizing on one screw implants, visual evidence probable rusting. From same implant, another was simultaneously without order characterize and analyze different behavior both screws, chemical composition characterized by atomic absorption energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) coupled scanning electron microscope (SEM). Also, studied metallography, optical microscopy (OM), Vickers microhardness tests, SEM analysis. On other hand, prospection alloy limits these performed based Schaeffler-Delong diagram ASTM F-138 standard. To effect composition, heat treatment, microstructure, pitting resistance equivalent number (PRE) stacking fault (SFE), genetic algorithm (GA) an artificial neural network (ANN) used. accordance with elemental analysis, do not fulfill ranges established Furthermore, there found differences between microstructures screws. regard prospection, results GA ANN support proposed region diagram. The corrosion failure associated severe plastic deformation presence precipitates. proposal can minimize cause failures implants.
